A national and international search is underway for the world’s best in urban planning, urban design and architecture professions to help shape Barangaroo, through the design of Barangaroo’s 5.2 hectare central precinct.
On Thursday 30 August 2012, the Barangaroo Delivery Authority released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to seek an experienced and highly qualified team to provide master planning services for Central Barangaroo.
“This is a rare opportunity for the future of Sydney. What is eventually designed at Central will shape how people experience Barangaroo in the future,” CEO of the Authority, John Tabart said.
“On the western edge of Sydney’s CBD, Barangaroo is a 22 hectare former container port, being transformed into a vital new extension of the city, as a new global financial hub and the spectacular Headland Park,” Mr Tabart said.
“Central is an integral part of Barangaroo, planned to be a stimulating new place with commercial and cultural development, creating spaces for living work and leisure,” said David McCracken, Development Director, Barangaroo Delivery Authority.
“We are looking for a world class team, with the skills and experience to collaborate with the Authority to provide master planning services that achieve ithe vision and objectives for Central Barangaroo,” Mr McCracken said.
Mr Bob Nation, Design Director for Barangaroo also added, “A key objective of Barangaroo is design excellence, and the process is looking to procure an experienced and capable team of experts to contribute to this great new part of Sydney.”
The successful team will provide the following services:
- A Conceptual Vision for the Central Master Plan
- Revised Concept Plan pertaining to Central
- The Central Master Plan
- Land Use planning framework and Staging Land release plan
- Public domain plan and whole of site integration
- Built form Master Planning considerations
The Request for Proposal documentation was available from Thursday 30 August 2012 from the NSW Government etender website. It is now available here. Part A and Part B.
Submissions closed Wednesday 26 September 2012. The Authority has recieved a range of submissions from nationally and internationally renowned master planners, with great potential to work with the Authority on an exciting outcome for Central.
The Authority is now conducting a detailed assessment and evaluation of proposals, with appointment of the master planning team targeted in time to commence work in the first quarter of 2013.
